I will admit I only skimmed over the posts on this thread, so I apologize if I am repeating this.
If you are going over to the mainland for a cenote dive near PDC, you may want to look into a tour of the Mayan ruins in Tulum for your wife and daughter (if they are in to that sort of thing). I found the tour to be fascinating, and there is also a very nice beach there along with a lot of shopping areas right on site. I'm sure they could have a fun day there while you are off diving.
