Since 2010 I added underwater video equipment in the value of est. CA$ 17'000 to my 'belongings'. My home insurance only covers theft and fire within the walls of my house but not once I'm on travel.

I checked with DAN at DEMA about their equipment insurance packages, but they are only provide insurance on the U.S. side.
My insurance broker ( HUB ) on the Canadian side couldn't find an insurance company yet that covers any flooding of housing and cameras.

If someone on Scubaboard.com has an answer to my question, I'd appreciate any input on this post. Thanks.

My Canadian home owners insurance (state farm) covers all of my camera gear for everything. Even stupidity. Like dropping it over board. Or throwing it in the traash. Or leaving it behind. Only had to use it once when a housing lens mount failed and flooded the housing.

I do have the gear listed on a special rider. Model, serial #, replacement cost (be sure to include taxes here... Learned that the hard way).

I did not have to do anything really special. This is a normal feature of all P&C insurance. It is the same concept as insuring all of your wife's fancy jewellery. Document the items, pay more money, you are covered.

Maybe you just have to ask your insurance agent different questions?

P.S. I think the industry term for this type of coverage is called "all perils" and not "stupidity insurance" as I call it.

Same thing.

Thanks, I'll look into this soon.
