Yep should work, make sure is liquid filled or the plastic may compress onto the needle bearings.. jamming the needle... should be a sight (pardon the pun) more accurate than the pathetic things they sell for dive compasses! I have a couple of Suuntos that I intend to test shortly!
 
I have been diving on a Silva from Wal-Mart
for over a year now
I even use one of those springy cord things from the casino to hold your gambling card as a lanyard on it and it works great I did replace the ends of it with small electrical crimp to make it more secure :D
