Going to the Ruby E the end of this month and would like to know what to expect. Should I take my camera? It's my first time there, is it going to be worth it? What to expect as for as vis?

It's a little small and easy to navigate around. The day I went the vis was about 10 ft, but it can be better. I would take the camera there is quite a bit of life on it. It's pretty close to the Yukon witch is a popular dive.

Looks like a big Rose Parade Float --covered all over with Purple, Orange and Strawberry Anemones-- real beautiful!

Thanks for the replys. Now at least I'm not going in blind. I hope to dive the Yukon next but this trip it is not included. Next time I will look for another operator, but this one was set up by my buddy. I'll try to post some pictures to let you know how the vis was then!

Looking through the log book i have 45 dives on her. She is a really nice little wreck. I have been there in zero vis and have been there in 40+ vis. Average is 10-15. The Ruby is all about Macro if you are taking pictures. Get close and go SLOW. I have a seen 12 species of nudibranchs here in one dive.

BTW: I dive doubles and love the two tank Ruby trips. I usually dive 36% and do one long . ~90 minute dive ;) 75 minutes at depth and 15 minutes of deco. Makes for a sweet dive and lots of pictures.

...there's also a toilet about 15-20' off of the starboard (I think) side (or at least there was when I was there in February). Kind of an odd thing to see...

Which boat are you going on? The Lois Ann usually combines the Ruby E with the Yukon. Most Dive trips to wreck alley have the option to move the second dive in case of poor viz. The NEL tower is a good dive; I haven't dove the Ingrahm street bridge but those who have report good things. They may move to the Point Loma kelp beds if wreck alley isn't good. Which boat are you going on?
This link http://www.californiadiveboats.com/ will get you to the web pages for the various dive boats and you can check their schedules and dive site descriptions.
