I think that I can pretty much guarantee that we are going to Monterey. :D I haven't dove up there and last time I was there stayed at a resort.

We NEED some locals to give us some suggestions!!!!

Cute picture Ann Marie! :) As for suggestions - we'll be more than happy. And I will keep on people on the NorCal sight to provide you with them.

Lone Oak Lodge is a very diver friendly place and they have small cottages (that's what they call them anyway) that would be good for families, which have 3 beds in them I think. It's not a fancy place but clean and comfortable. They have rinse tanks and hooks outside the rooms where you can hang gear too. Monterey Lodging Monterey Hotel Monterey CA Hotel - Lone Oak Lodge Monterey Bay CA

There are many other hotels in the area also but I haven't stayed at many of them myself. Monterey Bay Hotel: Monterey Hotels Motels Lodging, ca, Bed & Breakfast, Resort, Hotel, California

There is also a campground right in town called Veteran's Memorial Park but it's on a first come, first serve basis and I hear it fills up quick on Fridays in the warmer months. City of Monterey | Rec. & Community Services | Veteran's Memorial Park - Camping/Picnicing in Monterey

Nice links, thanks

Motel6 in Marina is a good hideout from high prices. It's a 10min drive in every morning, but a pretty good deal.

Also, for anyone who is in the military, the Navy Lodge is a great deal. And your non-military friends can stay with you. In fact, if you wish to sponsor some extras, you can get non-military people rooms there as long as you are also staying there and you sign them in/out.

The Lone Oak and the Travelodge on Freemont are both good diver hotels.

I also recommend chartering the Cypress Sea one day for an "all day" 3 tank (or more) dive trip. 22 divers max, tanks provided with air and/or nitrox fills, largest boat out there (more stable on the seas), great snacks, and Phil Sammet is a riot!
