First post here, this should be a pretty simple questions. Just recently got certified for a trip to Australia next month and will have 2 days in Cairns. Anyone have any recommendations for groups, shops, or trips to look into that will take you out to the GBR? I'm reading the the outer reef is better diving, less damage, and less people. I'm trying to find something less commercial and obviously with fewer crowds. Thanks.

Welcome!

Not sure when you arrive and depart Cairns but you maybe able to join a two day/one night trip to the outer barrier reefs off Cairns (departs early morning and returns afternoon).

The trips on Kangaroo Explorer, Reef Encounter and Ocean Quest offer great value entry level diving.

Next time you visit Cairns, stay longer and visit the Ribbon Reefs on a three night trip :)

+1 on the outer reef. Look for overnight trips that will take you to the better sites.

We specialise in that sort of trip and live and work in Cairns as divers.

Check out our site and that will give you a good summary of the best trips available. (There is also a page for non diving activities to give you an idea of extra things to do whilst in the area)

Any questions please feel free to PM or just give me a call on the phone. Happy to help.
