Hello-

will be on a family trip to Cabo first week of April. Have always wanted to dive Cabo Pulmo, is it worth it to drive over there for a day and dive? Is it good diving in early April?

Thanks all!

I dove Cabo Pulmo mid March a few years ago so imagine conditions would be similar. Highly highly recommended (in my limited experience, nothing in Cabo San Lucas compares to Pulmo). I would take note if you are travelling during Easter (Semana Santa) as that may make things busier - otherwise it isn't peak season which means you have a better chance of going to the best dive sites (and more than once) - the park only gives out a certain number of daily permits to the various sites. The bull shark dive is obviously a coveted one. On one dive got caught in a school of jacks that went on for 40 minutes (and still hadn't ended - we had to swim up through it to surface). Its a beautiful protected marine park.

Water was pretty cold at around 18-21 degrees Celsius. I wore my 5 mm Bare Evoke with hooded vest and a 4 mm shortie on top (still freezing). Viz was pretty decent though currents were up at times - lots of life to speak of. A day trip will be a bit of a haul since its about 1.5 hour drive from the airport (which is another 45 mins or so from downtown CSL). Generally not recommended to be on the rougher part of the road in the dark - it isn't paved and there are a lot of ruts, divets, boulders etc on the road that you will want to carefully avoid. I think its worth a few days staying as it is a cute dive-focused town. Make sure you grab lunch at Tacos & Beer right on the beach near the launch!

April is not really good for Cabo Pulmo. You may luck out and see some sharks, but probably not. The jack ball is not there in April.
