Strange question, I'm considering purchasing a "new" computer on eBay. The downside is there won't be a warranty since not sold through an authorized dealer. How often do these things need warranty work? It's a good price.

Thoughts?

A lot of dive shops that go out of business, that cannot transfer inventory to other stores, will sell out to people who resell on eBay.

How good are the pictures? Are they 'real' or are they copied from a dealer's or manufacturer's website? Ask the seller if the warranty was registered.

Out of six dive computers, four were bought used. I always send them in for a checkup. So far, I'm four for four. Be cynical, ask a lot of questions, and if it doesn't seem right, it probably isn't.

Buy a used computer can be iffy. I have both purchased and sold dive computers on ebay as well as other sites, and if there is any difficulty, I try to rectify same-before bidding.
It will all depend on your seller.
Ask some questions NOW (before buying) and see how responsive the seller is.
If you feel he/she is evasive...be wary. My 2 cents...

Thanks everyone for your input.

I got lucky and found exactly what I was looking for, PLUS an upgraded model as well, that were newly listed as "used" on the Leisure Pro site. I'm very satisfied and feel comfortable they'll take care of me if there are any problems.

If not, I'm visiting their New York store in May and will Give 'Em Hell!!!!!! :rofl3:

Hi,
Just for future reference to anyone considering buying from Ebay. They offer total purchase protection to the buyer, and absolutely none to the seller, despite their Ebay "resolution" centre.
So if you buy any item you are unhappy with, regardless of whether the seller accepts returns and the item description is accurate, Ebay will find in your favour and the seller must refund. I know this from bitter experience. I'd still go with the advice from the other guys to save any hassle, but if you're unhappy with a purchase, start a dispute and Ebay will find in your favour. Glad to hear you got what you were looking for though.
