I will be buying a new pair of fins soon and I am having a hard time deciding which fins to get. I want to go with the split and am looking at atomic, sp twin jet, or apollo. I have size 13 foot and currently dive with mares quattro, which I like a whole lot but they starting to ware down. I have been leaning towards the atomic but would like some help and a suggestion on the right size fin.
See if your local shop will allow you to test them in a pool. What works for me, might not work for you. I've tried both the Apollo Bios and the Twin Jets. My old Jets are superior to either.
That is the ones I would go with. I got my first set of fins back in 72.. they were the ScubaPro jet fins, I still have them today and use them off and on. About a year ago I saw the Twin Jet's and thought they were a joke untill i had someone let me try there's. I have to say now they are great, many folks I dive with say they were gettinf craps in there calves from the fins they wore and when they changed to the twin jet it stopped, and much of there leg fatigue too. I just enjoy mine it seems like once you get use to the way they work they propel you throught the water better and faster than the standard fins.
I have several dives in both the TUSA Xoom splits and the Atomic Splits.
The TUSA's I purchased when I was doing more recreational diving in a wetsuit and found that they performed very much as advertised. Very comfortable, and little effort needed for slow forward movement. Only downside was that, due to the angle that works great for flutter kicks, they didn't perform well when frog kicking or other non-silting kicks.
The Atomics were purchased to replace my TUSA's after I had purchased my drysuit and found out that the TUSA footpockets were now too small. I like the atomics very much. The fit is very nice and comfortable, and I am able to perform frog kicks very effeciently. I am still working on the other kick styles used in tek diving, but so far, I'm happy with what I've acheived with these fins.
Good luck in your choosing. I know that there are lots of choices.
