All this stuff to figure out. Extra's to buy. Trial and error. Pockets, pouches, which size, where to put them. Geez, while I suspected it, I didn't know it would really be this hard.

I think the Dive Rite Transpac is one cool looking well built BC and I've always liked them. I ordered one and it comes next week.

Trim Weights......... Has anyone used the DR trim weights with a Transpac? I ordered the 2 pounders and quick links to attach them. While I do want trim weights in the back the DR trim weights don't seem like the way to go. It seems a weight "pouch" of some kind would be better.

Any suggestions? No plate recommandations please.

I'm starting to remember why I bought a Zeagle Stiletto. Take it out of the box, throw a couple of weights in the built in ditchable rear trim pockets and jump in. Maybe I'm trying to turn a tech rig into something it's not supposed to be and that's why this is difficult.

I used to dive with a TransPac before I switched to B/P&W. The pouches that I liked best on it were the OMS NO Sag pouches, or the OMS Compact pouches.

I just took a look at the OMS No Sag pouch... how does that attach to the back of the transpac?

There are DR weight pockets available in two sizes (16 lbs and 32 lbs, the amount of weight they will carry). I have a transpac and the 32 lbs pockets and love it. I normally use softweights in them but have used chunk lead too.

As for the trim weights, check your trim, in the water, before you order or install them. They are basically to help if you are light at the head. I find that adjusting the position of the tank (within reason) has kept me from needing them.

Since you are in B'ham, you should have headed up to Dive Sports. about an hour north of you. He's a Dive Rite dealer and could have fit it all for you and you'd already have it. I think they sell the Transpac, Wing (your choice) weight pockets, cam bands, crotch strap, etc for something like $525 or $530.

You could have tried everything and figured out exactly what you needed w/o the hassle of guessing.

I'll put it this way... my existing BC has trim pockets on the back flanking the tank. I have always put 2 pounds in each one and my trim is absolutely perfect. Okay, it's pretty good.

I didn't want to give that up. Also, I use 14 lbs with a 5mm and 12 with a 3mm and it minimizes the weight that goes into the integrated weight systems or on a belt if one was so inclined.

TransPacs are pretty similar to bp/w's, in that they take a little work to get set up. But the whole point is that once you are set up, you're done. It's a one time process, after which you get to dive dive dive and enjoy your purchase. I wouldn't stress too much about initial setup time, unless the package is due to be delivered mere moments before leaving on a dive vacation.

You know I almost did that very thing but Scubatoy's is my remote LDS of choice. They meet Dive Sports price and I felt a little bad for throwing that at them.

I wasn't going to go up to Dive Sports and try things on then go somewhere else to buy it. Had I known Dive Sports before Scubatoys then it might be different but Scubatoys takes good care of me and I'm not switching.

Once I get my hands on it (and not wet) if I think better of it I'll just ship it back. The shipping cost will probably be less than the fuel to drive to Dive Sports.

Don, you can put 2 lb weights directly on the tank bands if needed. One of the reasons why so many people like rigs such as the Transpac (and of course, BP/W) is the lack of clutter. I keep everything not clipped to me in a single Dive Rite bellows pocket and use a weightbelt.

I dive a Transpac and love it. I bought the TransWeight 16 system because of its much smaller size. I have two 2# trim weights attached, one on either side of the tank, which means that the TransWeight 16 is big enough to hold as much weight as I'm ever likely to need. The only problem with this setup is that I need to travel with four pounds of trim weights which I would otherwise leave at home...
