I just picked up an old scubapro Mark5 that I want to use for a pony bottle configuration.
I had my wife take it over to Ricks Diving Locker in Escondido for service.

Rick told her the 1st Stage was too old and could not be serviced. He told her that she should buy a new regulator.

I then called Ocean Enterprise's and was told that rebuild kits are available and that they could service this regulator, no problem.

I am a little upset with the response I received from Ricks Diving Locker. Seems that he is being less than honest in order to make more money.

Just wanted to pass this on to local divers in the area.

Thanks

Did Ocean Enterprise actually look at/repair the reg? You might be correct but it would be awful if you write off a dive store before confirming the repair was successful.

I don't know any of the parties involved. Is it possible that he was trying to say that the cost of rebuilding that regulator would be too expensive, considering the relative market value? Or maybe he was saying that HE didn't have the parts to repair the regulator considering its age. Is it possible that you wife didn't completely understand what they were saying?

There is very good reason to come on a public board and make negative comments about a business enterprise. However, maybe a little more investigation might be in order before posting a "buyer beware" thread and calling the business out for "being less than honest" to make a few extra bucks.

I normally would give the dealer the benefit of the doubt. But I also have another Mark 2 scuba pro that I sent to the same shop for adjustment and he performed that operation just fine.

More info on the Mark 5. I took the Mark 5 scubapro to Ocean enterprises and their service department looked at it and said they could rebuild the regulator, no problem. I asked if this was just an o-ring overall and they said that they could rebuild the entire regulator using a Mark 10 piston if needed.

Later I received an email from the dive shop from the owner in response to another post I made on another board. He indicated that he was not a scubapro shop and that he sends the work out.

If that was the case then why didn't he tell my wife he would have to send the regulator out in order to determine if it could be serviced.

I do not want to point fingers in a case like this but, based on the info I received from Ocean enterprises I really have to question this dealer's intentions.

Thanks

Joe
