The Oceanic Omega and the Poseidon Odin are both famous side exhaust regulators.
The Omega is a bit smaller/lighter....but it's also shorter....the Odin is has a significantly 'longer' 2nd stage, which is great for exhausting the bubbles off to one side...as it deposits the bubbles about as far away from one's face as is possible in a modern regulator.
I was testing out my Poseidon Odin in my local dive shops pool (just overhauled) when a lady who was in the middle of getting basic-open-water-certified saw me with my Odin and asked me about it......she had never seen that design before.
My local shop sells Poseidons, but of course didn't have any demos, as they're too expensive to use as training/rental regs.........and she was very interested in test diving it, as she complained of bubbles while using the conventional 'class' regs.
She told me the dive shop had his own Odin, but he didn't want to loan it.......for 'hygiene reasons' she was told.
I didn't have the heart to tell her that she had very sharp bad-breath, and that's what the shop owner really meant........but she was very friendly, so I didn't
mind her using my regulator.
We spent the next hour in the pool........she went through 2 full AL 80's.......as she swam laps, swam in every possible position........and marveled at the lack of bubble interference.....as well as the way the reg breathed.
We did buddy-breathing too.....to show her how neat it is to be able to use the reg without having to think about the 2nd stage being 'right-side-up'.
At first she said it took a little getting used to.....as the Odin has a noticable initial 'cracking pressure' when first inhaling...but then she loved the way the air 'swooshed' into her lungs......it made breathing very
comfortable for her.....she had been worried about not getting enough air UW.
She ended up buying an Odin that day......they aren't cheap but the lack of bubble interference and air output convinced her it was worth it.
