I have seen steady streams of fine tini tiny bubbles from other sherwood first stages. Finally checked mine today in the pool.

Rather than seeing the stream of hundreds of tiny bubbles, I just see slightly larger but still tiny bubble forming at a rate of one per second or so.

Is this typical of an older sherwood drybleed? Vs. the stream of hundreds of little bubbles??

It should look like a baby alka-seltzer. If you are just releasing intermittent burps your dry bleed element is on the verge of plugging. Get it looked at at asap.

If it does stop flowing the check valve will close off and you will not have IP compensation with depth making for poor performance.

The flow is measured using flooded graduated cylinder in a test tank. The measurement of discharged air after 1 minute should be between 13 and 27 cc for the old style flow control elements and 20-30 cc for the new laser drilled flow control elements.

I called the scubatoy tech. He said he tested all sherwood reg, and so mine should have been tested also. I think I'll have to bring a 20 cc syringe home tomorrow and check it myself. If it did pass, it will likely be on the low side of acceptable.

Sherwood 1st stages bubble if equiped with the famous bubblling system to keep water out of the 1st stage-housing. In time the little hole in the piston will fill up with dirt so the bubbling will reduce. It can't be cleaned.
On the other hand - when using a 'standard' sherwood first stage - your regulator needs a bit maintenance. ASAP.

Sherwood hasn't used a bleed orifice in the piston for at least 10 years. When they went to the round first stage, they incorporated a bleed orifice that is integral with the body. This orifice's filter can be easily replaced.
