Oh, we're not done yet. We still have a possible 3rd thread for the I2I forum regarding the ethics of knowingly misrepresenting the current state of science and the unknowns about decompression to scare up increased sales/profits.
 
DCS is also a function of temperature. The Uwatec algorithm takes into account significant exposure to cold temperatures.

Are you sure temperature has nothing to do with on-gassing & off-gassing of nitrogen?The Diver Alert Network ( DAN ) reports less than 1% of divers fall victim to DCS.

I prefer to have a % approaching zero; using a heart rate monitor reduces the risk of DCS.

i did a dive in 2*c water last year while demoing a heated vest. I wasn't anything resembling cold. In fact I was baking. Your fancy little computer could not have known I was wearing a heated vest and was nice and warm. I'll stick to my depth gauge, timer, and planning software/tables I use.
 
I can find nothing in the manual about the computer adjusting for water temp? I don't think that is true. .

let's review the facts (the blue is conjecture but I left it for the sake of "completeness")

We had an older female diver get a "hit" after doing two long 50' - 60' dives in Cozumel. She had a long surface interval 1.5 hours. She was diving 21% O2.

After six months she did a dive using both a non - air integrated & air integrated computer. We downloaded both computers.
The non-air integrated computer showed a perfect dive. The air integrated computer showed a workload throughout her entire dive. Her surface air consumption was consistant, .4 cu/min.
I believe this workload was due to short shallow breathing, leading to improper gas exchange. This resulted in the bends.
After her "hit", she was able to correct her breathing by using an air integrated dive computer.
She always uses 32% EAN or higher. She has not had any further incidents.


The only facts are:
-She got "hit" on two rather long deepish dives (which put her pretty darned close to NDL on a PADI table)
-Six months later she did another dive and didn't get bent.
that's all.

There is no information on the "six months later" dive. What was that dive profile? what it a single dive or repetitive? was it on 32%? Without this information you can't even consider it a data point. And from this you concluded the AI computer is what prevented the bends? for the record, I admit you might be correct - maybe she would have taken another hit had she followed her other computer but there's no evidence to support that.

I might as well say I've never been bent, I always carry EMT shears, therefore EMT shears prevent the bends.

actually, he did provide some info.. which makes it worse... he thinks the AI computer prevented the bends and NOT the 32% or higher she dives with now

She always uses 32% EAN or higher.

Yes, I lead our divers on SCUBA trips to remote destinations all over the world. I feel that we need to use the latest & best methods available to avoid DCS.

Many times recompression chambers are not an easy option.

Moreover, our divers are getting older. Older divers have an increased risk of DCS.
