I was using 28 integrated pounds in fw with my drysuit and fleece, no ankle weights, with my old BC.

With the new setup, I had 10 pounds on my weight belt, 3lbs in ankle weights, and and advertised 13 pounds on the backplate (including the weight plates).

Also, I do find that it will send you face first if you are not 90% on your back, or finning, at the surface.

Might dive it again this weekend, and will update everyone.

Jeff,

I doubt if you were light. In your previous set up you carried 28 lbs. Now you list 26lbs. It's also likely that your old Jacket BC was positive by at least a few pounds, so in effect you are now more negative.

If you are properly weighted, and have your rig properly adjusted using the crotch strap you won't have to fight any "face first" at the surface.

If you are properly weighted, i.e. eyelevel at the surface with no gas in the wing, then you only need a small "puff" of gas in the wing to be comfortable at the surface.

This small amount of gas in the wing will be right behind your head, not down around your waist.

If you are over weighted, then you need to fill up your wing. With a full wing there is gas down around the bottom of the tank, and that can tip you forward.

I'd recommend getting in the pool. Empty your wing, and DS and add weight slowly until you are eyelevel. Make sure you aren't finning at all. I'll bet you will be surprised.

Let me know if I can help.

Thanks Tobin. I'm lined up for some professional assistance from a vetran SB member. We are going to work out the kinks with his generous expertise, in the ocean. We will then get the boyancy right as you suggest.

I didn't have any gas in the wing. I did add gas to my DS like I normally would at depth. At the surface, however, I had the wing fully inflated because that's what I was used to with my old BC - I just always did that - why not right? I see your point with this and will not inflate as much next time. I'll post back after we work out some fitting/weight details. Thanks for the comments.

Not if the weight is correct and properly distributed.

A pool is much better for working out the weight/trim kinks. You have immediate access to
water deeper than your height as well as a "shelf" (poolside) upon which to store extra and
excess weight while you experiment.

So after some pointers and a Dive with Matt, I feel a bit better about the setup. I am going to try the hog harness instead of the profit, however. I may get that ordered this week, and give it a try. I like the kit from Tobin which has everything I need. If I like this setup better, I may have a pro fit for sale ;) Thanks for the help Matt, and all.
