Is the idea to have no ditchable weight?
.

No the idea is to have just enough ditchable weight to get neutral at the heavist point in the dive. So on a single tank your bouancy will shift by about 6 pounds as the air in you tank is used up. So if you ditch six pounds at the begining of the dive you should be neutral.

Having more ditchable weight will result if a very rapid trip to the surface in the event your weight needs to be ditched. And that is certainly unsafe as well. Also generally shifting the weight off middle of the body improves trim which results in more streamlined effcient swimmng.

I have used the small Dive Rite integrated weight pouches(Trans Weight 16 I believe). Here are some thoughts.

Pros: They don't take up much room on your harness.
They are secured by velcro and a plastic clip.

Cons: Very difficult to reload with gloves on.
Must be locked in somehow or they can slide on your belt.

I used them with a transplate harness so I mounted directly to the small metal plate that is attached to your waist belt. This worked quite nicely.

I am currently using the OMS weight pouches that look similar to the Halcyon pouches with the Scubapro type clip system. I like these better but also have some disadvantages.

Pros: More secure than than the Dive Rite Pouches.
They mount in such a manner that you don't have to worry about the pouch sliding back and forth on your waist belt.
There is also a small d ring on the top of the pouch.
Easy to load and unload with gloves on.

Cons: They take up a large amount of real estate on your harness.

I think the Dive Rite pouches are less expensive but I don't remember by how much.

Hope this helps

Hi Peter,

These pouches are not ditchable but because they are placed at various locations, they help with your trim and ballance. I'm unable to post these photos but if you pm me your email I'll send them to you.
