BP/W for tall guy

Being a tall guy does cost more in almost all things. 6'6" and 280lbs means there is not much off the rack that is even close to useable, I have a SP seahawk that fits everywhere but the length. It hits me a little high on the torso, so BP/W looks like the only way to get true comfort. Again thanks for the input.

I'm 6'4, so although not as tall as some here, I'd hardly consider myself short. I use the standard size DTD BP and have no problem fitting it at all. I had to trim quite a bit of the webbing as I'm just 180lbs. I only had slight problems reaching my valves when diving my drysuit, but that's easily solved by moving the tank bands down (which, to be honest, also benefited my weight distribution, my long legs and dito twin tanks caused me to be bottom heavy).

.... and have you ever tried a plate cut for a tall body type?

P.S. - what do you suggest if you can't move the bands? Not all plates are constructed the same......

I should have said something like "you can move the plate up or down on your back for single tanks", as mentioned with doubles the tank height is set by the bolts, and as such, you need to have the plate high enough to reach the valves. But I assumed the OP was talking about single tank use.

Anyhow, 6'6", 280 lbs, from Oklahoma....Hmmmmm, do you play football?

A little to old for football now, been on drilling rigs most my life. Originally from north of Houston, just live in Oklahoma.

Tobin certainly has great equipment. I also use Fred Tagge to make custom plates for me + team members. I ordered several long plates which weighed in the neighborhood of 18-19 lbs which was great for big guys who displace a lot of water when wearing a drysuit, plus rebreather. The heavy plates certainly help with getting some lead off the hips for big guys.

And yes, I feel bad for folks who are out of the norms. Small, or big. And always more expensive. But, there is nothing as cool as variety. I would certainly like to know what it feels like to be 6'5".

I didn't realize Fred was still making plates. I thought he gave it up after so many different versions hit the market.

His question was whether regular sized BPs would work. My answer is a slightly long "yes", judging from own experience. Long BPs might work even better, but with those in short demand where I live, I can only comment on the regular sized ones.

W.r.t. moving bands: I meant the bands on a twin tank set-up, not the harness.
