BP/W and additional weight

I like to add weight by choosing a tank with buoyancy characteristics I like. With a comparitively buoyant AL80, I need a lot more additional weight than I want, so I usually go with more negative steel tanks instead.

This is great on your local water and I fully agree. But given when I travel I ain't going to bring along a tank (see my comment above about the baggage police). And given that by far and way most places give you an AL80 you are going to slap some weight on at some point.

Because you KNOW it's best to just get a proper wing for singles and one for doubles.

Thanks, that is what I thought you were going to say ... but I just wanted to check because I am new to the BP/W and did not want to over look something.
 
Since it still hasn't been said, the reason is because you won't get the lift you may need if the wing can't expand. If you put a narrow singles wing on a set of doubles, the doubles will hold it down and prevent it from expanding. Make sure that any wing you want to use for doubles is wide enough to expand.
 
Yet another vote for a DIY P-Weight
 
I wear a belt with ~14 pounds in a dry suit and alu80. I chose a belt that holds soft weights and do not find it to be uncomfortable with this small amount of weight in it.

This reduces the weight of the scuba unit for passing it up to a boat or whatever, gives me ditchable weight should I want it (an unlikely event and I put the weight belt under my crotch strap), and makes it easy to adjust the amount of weight for fresh/salt/different tanks.

I have an assortment of other weights that I've used over the years (V weight, P weight, etc) but keep going back to the belt.

If the trim is off with the weight at your waist then you'd need to take some of the other suggestions.
