Ok this may be more appropriate for the Pub. But... Don't people give a hoot - have a conscience and do something - vote for crying out loud... This is why we are in the mess we are currently in... When, What is finally going to cause the camel's back to break?

Ok done with my rant - for now... :) Thanks for reading...

I have a buddy with a house on the Shark River inlet in Avon. Faces the river. Close to fishing, beach is nicer - no snobs - close to diving - far from Deal. Let them rot.

So when are we Riff-Raff going to get an invite? lol - I want to rub in the nose of those Deal stinkers... :)

...//... Only way to do anything is to get the state to change the laws. Good luck with that.
This is highly situational. It is also far more doable than most believe. Belmar is nice to divers and I really try to gas-up and spend my money there. I also post my appreciation and tell others about it. I also gave my appreciation for the beautiful diver's entry at Maclearie to the local chamber of commerce. Lovely person emailed back, word got around that it is being used and appreciated from as far away as Delaware.

Just like me wasting my time on this thread. Nothing will improve in Deal, ever. But I really agree with BRD's position. You subsidize what you want more of and oppose what you want less of. If you don't speak up you are guaranteed to lose. You know that you are going to lose in Deal, but speak out and state your position.

Same with beach fishing in Delaware. Years ago, the state removed the "slot fish" for stripers. 2015 Striped Bass Regulations by State - On The Water (the little fish) That is the only thing we catch on the beach, but the charter operators only catch the big ones and they want happy customers that don't have to release a big fish because it takes them over their limit. The charter operators all came out to speak their mind and vote, none of the weekend surf fishermen/women did.

The slot fish is back now, mainly because of a year of so of "why bother fishing on the beach?". Really hurt the local bait shops.

Yes.

There seems like a divable jetty or two next the Deal Casino Beach Club. Why don't we park as close as we can, load up the Sunfish Pond cart and trample down the streets and along the beach with our gear.

The looks we would get would be priceless.

HA!!! Don't mess.

The Sunfish Pond cart is looking good, got an Alpacka raft (FREAKING LOVE IT) and ultra lightweight paddle (thing of beauty). Latest and almost final piece is my new Garmin GPS 64st. Fussing with their software. Uses both US and Soviet Oops, Russian satellites for pinpoint accuracy. Have a depth sounder. Had to ask Dr. Math (The Math Forum - Ask Dr. Math) how to make a perfectly square grid at my latitude. Got that calculation, have the datum. See pic. Very likely the survey begins this month .

I may not be fast, but I am thorough...

Why should local residents have any more right to public roadways than others?

You are just the right guy. We want to test the diving from his house. His deck has stairs straight into the river - at low tide, it's a beach. There's a lot of boat traffic but neighbors have two or three jetties that are definitely worth looking over. I reckon they're in about 15-20 feet when the tide is in. A lot of fish to spear down there. Obviously have to tow a float and stay away from the main channel but could be some interesting diving. I've always driven up to 8th street but this entry is even easier. Any interest?

They shouldn't. Whole point of the thread. Local residents in Deal don't like 'others' on their roads and beaches. It's a nice town that could get overrun by rifraff looking to use 'their' beach.

Unfortunately, things have change a bit in the last 60 or 70 years. When I was a kid spending summers in my grandparents bungalow in Ortley Beach; beach acess tags, parking issues, and room for your blanket were never a problem. By 1980, that had all changed.

Texas still has a little room.

I have had a conversation with their Chief of Police, Deal has no problem with divers, as long as you stay away from their bathing areas. I was able to confirm my conversation with him shortly thereafter with two of his subordinates who both stated they had heard from their Chief on the matter. I have emailed him the NJAC sections on diving and swimming as well as Spearfishing. Just make sure you give the bathing area a wide berth.
