apologies if I missed something or am misunderstanding your comment....but, when did the OP think that there wasn't one? they made it sound like they weren't totally sure, and wanted to know. they were very receptive to all the comments explaining that there is a correlation.

you are exactly correct i never thought it was “risk free” to drink and dive. just wanted to see what the community thinks about it since i am new.

To all the posters here talking about executing stoners and hating on bud light, I want to point out the OP is from California where weed and alcohol (including bud light) are both legal.

Weren’t the band members of the Grateful Dead scuba divers? I wonder what they got into?

OP, use common sense and discretion; I go on vacation to dive not to drink so I prioritize the diving. That doesn’t mean I won’t imbibe at the END of the day just that I do so with the next days diving in mind.

I hope to do a liveaboard within the year and when i am on it diving will be the absolute priority. maybe a couple beers but alcohol will be the last thing on my mind.

I have never been able to tolerate more than a little alcohol. I seldom drink, and when I do, it is very little (say, at most half of a 12 oz glass of local IPA, once a week). I don't keep alcohol of any type here at the house, usually. During a weekend dive trip, if diving (usually solo) with others, I might have a celebratory 1/2 glass on the last day, when the diving is done, and we all are taking our time packing up and socializing. If diving solo solo, I won't imbibe at all, since I generally hit the road right away.

If you're a wimp like me, I suggest abstaining altogether, until the diving is done at the end of the dive trip (maybe).

So is a Coors Light drinker OK for you to dive with.. What does Bud Light have to do with anything to do with this discussion? The only thing I can think of on the Bud Light statement is that some folks are just totally insecure homophobics.

Back on topic.........I am personally of the opinion that a cold beer (of any brand) between NDL shore dives is really no big deal. And any pot smoked the night before diving has completely no effect the next morning.

The only thing I can think is... didn't you recently have some kind of mental lapse and almost kill yourself diving? I forget the details. Was a cold (Coors light) or two somewhere in the mix that day - since it is "not a big deal" before a non-deco dive?

I have never drank on a dive trip. Promise.

3 things, I'll keep it brief

1. Do not drink until you're done diving for the day.

2. Whoever you know that dives drunk, never dive with them or be in the same boat with them.

3. The rule on some liveaboards is that once you drink, you're done diving for that day and no drinking after midnight.
