GOing to Bonaire for a week and my OW dives.

For my fins and hard sole booties......
How important is it to get those special booties socks?

Can i just get nylon socks from Wal-Mart ?

Thanks

I have never used socks or liners of any type inside any dive booties or boots. In Bonaire the booties should be hard-soled, as you are aware. If you find that your booties chafe you, then consider trying some dive socks. The water is warm in Bonaire, so you may find socks uncomfortable.

Yeah you can, or you can just wear the booties over bare feet if you like. I find the socks make my 5mm booties that zip over the ankle easier to put on than just with bare feet, so I wear the socks with them, but I just slip my tropical-weight 3mm short booties on over bare feet.

I haven't observed most people wearing socks under booties at all. I don't. My husband started to recently as they prevent chafing for him. Possibly if you have a little extra room in your booties or have trouble getting them on, they are more likely to be of help. You could always take the Mallwart ones along just in case.

I get some nasty blisters on my achilles tendons if I'm in dive boots all day. I limped away from my open water and bought a pair of lycra socks. They're just a pair of ocean pro cheapies, but they make a big difference to comfort.

My wife and I both use our full hard sole booties for Bonaire shore diving. I've never felt the need for any changes,,, but my wife sometimes gets a little toe chaffing by the end of the trip so this year she tried the tube socks they sell in the dive shop at Buddies.. Pretty sure they are Lycra and super thin so really don't effect fit. The end up is that she'll never dive without them again. No more chaffing and she especially loves that that her booties just slip right off after a dive. Should have got these for her years ago.

I wear them pretty much every time I dive wet. They make wetsuit easier to put on and prevent my boots from rubbing my heels raw on multiple days of diving.

I was seriously going to ask how (or why) you put socks on your booty but then I realized what you meant. I have never needed liners of any kind unless the water's cold. Then I wear 1/2 mm neoprene socks inside my boots. Generally in warm water I wear full-foot fins that don't allow me to wear anything except the fin.
