IMO, the house reef at Habitat/Buddy Dive is better.
Boat diving experience much the same.
We are out of NY, same as OP. Have stayed at Divi many times in the distant past when Peter Hughes was there. Now stay at buddy dive as we feel it is more cost effective, better experience. For the same $$ OP spent, or even a bit less, buddy offers a 6 boat dive package, free nitrox, buffet breakfast, rental truck, unlimited shore dives. Rooms have kitchen facilities that divi does not for those that wish to cook. Time it right and get a speciall deal at buddy's offered at different times of 9 boat dives and 50% discount for food at their restaurant for lunch and dinner at the same costs.

OK, so water temp good enough to only need a rash guard and bikini bottoms?
And good weather as in 80-90 degree temps?

We were all in 3mm wetsuits. Water temp around 81. Air temps in the low 80's with windy afternoons and occasional light rain

What was the weather (air temp), water temp, and what we're the diving conditions (I do not like choppy water) like in Bonaire during your trip in May?
If you dive the west side you will never get choppy water as the west is sheltered, and all of the boat dive ops will make sure to take you to a sheltered dive site.
