I have seen a few references to Bonaire becoming a Dutch municipality in the future. I can't seem to find any detailed info, dates, or timelines after a few google searches though. Anyone familiar with this that could provide a quick update on what's going on with the government in Bonaire? Just curious. :)

The governmental change has been in the works for awhile. Probably the only serious diving concern will be the outlawing of any form of dive booties on the island. In the future only wooden shoes will be allowed. Prototype models of the new DIR configuration wooden shoe fins are on view at Wannadive Divers at their Eden Beach location--should look pretty cool with Force fins. The hopes of many of us were dashed though when it was decided Amstel Bright would still not be made available in 12oz bottles. Bummer about the continuance of those tiny Amstels ... :eyebrow: // ww

I suspect the only real change will most likely be converting to the euro and have their currency attached to Europe rather than the US Dollar.

Looks like things are on the slow track, I read in the local paper that nothing is really expected to happen until 2010 now.

Whew! Hmmm... much as I wish Bonaire was classified as a South American dive site, looks like it might change to a European one instead. Tee hee.
