I know this will be meet with serious resistance, however I took a drive up to Blue Springs to check on the quarry's status. To my pleasure I found found the water quality check that was "done" in August of 2008. I took pictures of it as well as the quarry to show my friends. When I got home I looked closer at the image I snapped of the water quality check. I found that it showed <.1% which is cleaner that drinking water. I sent an e-mail the gentleman who did the sample, and was told it was a bad sample. A new sample was taken in September that showed the water quality to be unsatisfactory. I'm still researching this, but it's killing me about Blue Springs! I'm checking with the coast guard and with the Indiana state department of health. It's not looking promising. Please be careful when diving this quarry.

Interesting. That's the first I've heard of that ... a bad sample followed by a subsequent failed test. I've been there 3 times (6 dives) in the past 2 months and haven't had any health issues. Anecdotal evidence for sure, but a data point regardless. I've also heard from several folks who at least said they check with the Health Dept and that all was good. Let us know what else you find out.

Okay further communications with the Indiana State Department of Health is proving that they really need to get their act together. I heard from a Mr. Lewis who is like the head person there and he said that the report of e-coli in August is accurate! <1ppl. The unsatisfactory stamp the quarry recieved was from the September test. Who ever tested it listed it as well water not quarry water, so in so many other words from Mr. Lewis is that the quarry is safe to dive in just not safe to drink in larger quantities. I guess if your drowning you'll get a nasty bacterial infection or something like that!
