Hi, I'd like to make a trip back to Blue Hole. That's where I got my Open Water and Advanced Open Water last Nov, and haven't been back. Been in the Caribbean where it's warm :14:. I just bought a new BC (back inflate) and a used reg set, that I just had inspected but haven't dove either yet. I hope to do some time in the pool tomorrow or Sat, depending on availability, to check everything out locally, so can't make it this weekend. I'm going on a Liveaboard in June, and would really like to get at least one weekend of open water diving in before, to fully check out the new kit.

Do any of the motels there accept dogs? I have a Cockapoo, so not a large dog, and she'd be in her crate if I wasn't with her, and I'd plan on taking her to Blue Hole in the car during the day (not leave her alone in the motel). Also, what is the availability of air? My LDS has their own compressor at one of the motels there, but not sure it's available for other than their use with students. Lastly, does anyone know anything about campgrounds there? I really doubt that it would be cost effective to drive my motorhome there for a weekend, since it only gets about 5.5 MPG, :11: but I am curious in case of a longer trip. BTW, I am in Colo Spgs.

I know the La Quinta allows pets, you just need to tell them at check in.

Like Dan says, Stella offer air fills for $5

Great, thanks for the responses. I may try and get down there either next weekend or the following. I checked out my new kit at the LDS pool, they only had 3 tanks left. They took over 40 students to BH this weekend, with all their tanks. Kinda glad I didn't go if they had that many, and I'm sure there are other classes from around the area too (when I was there, there were classes from OK and TX - but that was in NOV, and may places were really cold!). Is there a schedule avaliable for BH, so as to plan when it's not really busy? Also, how hard is it to find a buddy down there, or should I plan on having one before I go?

OMG!! Glad we're going NEXT weekend........

Share a ride with Ron. If you're nice, he may even be your buddy. He's a "good buddy"!!

In summer the BH is generally less crowded as Denver LDS's and TX LDS's have OW classes scheduled locally. However I've seen as few as 20~30 divers on a summer weekend, and I've been there with over 100~150 as well. OW classes are not all that annoying. They are going to be on the platforms, so out of the way of most other divers. If a large group is entering the water, you just wait a few minutes and let them clear the entrance. That or you can do a Giant Stride in! :D

There is no schedule to determine how many Dive Shops will be there on a given weekend. You can look at some of the LDS schedules like A1 online, but there are a few dozen shops that could show up on any given weekend, so it's really impossible to judge.

Finding a buddy is a bit of a crap shoot. Most people go down to do classes. Less groups go just to dive. There are enough people in the water that diving solo generally means you will have someone in view on most dives. However I prefer to have a designated buddy. I never go down alone, so I've never had to find an insta buddy.

I generally like to go down 4~6 times a year, and I'm often looking for someone to ride share, and split gas/motel costs.

Most hotels allow pets. Dan must of forgot the huge dog pile that we ran over parking one trip at Adobe. Man did that stink! :shakehead:

You are right, I did forget. Maybe it was mental suppression of a really bad memory. :yuck:
