Not exactly sure what the pdf file that came with this was saying, but it *may* be that they're now not going to be doing all that dredging near the bridge. I reckon I got the email because I "commented" on the proposal. I'm sure some of you locals know more about it. . .

Kevin, I think this is just saying that where they do mitigation for the damage, will not effect some areas that we as divers don't really care about anyway!

They are still planning on doing the deepening and widening of the Inlet, and we still need to get the help of FAU, Reef Rescue, and many of the Trolls to work on the turbidity monitoring, and the other Baseline studies that we have to have fully operational prior to when the dredging begins.....We need to be able to show how badly they are destroying the ecosystem with FUNCTIONAL TURBIDITY MEASUREMENTS ( not the NTU's they use), because the present system the Army Corp lets them use, allows a free pass on catastrophic silting for the life at the Blue Heron Bridge Marine Park

Just a shout out to say THANKS to Sandra for showing Maribi and I a "nudi" good time last night! ;)

This was the first time we ever saw them, and when I blew up the shots to get them, wow, are they beautiful!

Will try to post something soon.

Also, thanks to Force E and Jeff Nelson, as always.

I always miss the real fun. Sorry I missed you two...

Here are a few pics I was able to salvage from last night's dive.

Mr Chen - The 2nd pic is the little guy I was pointing out to you

Jimw - The nudi is what I was trying to photograph when I got accosted by the moon jelly on my lip....so far from a great shot but fun memories.

Anyone have an idea what kind of anemone I saw?

I enjoyed the dive too, lots of life out there! I am willing to go most of the time, and MrChen is willing to go ALL the time!!:cool2:

I had 82F on the Suunto and estimate viz at 15 to 20ft. We got in around an hour early and the tide was a gentle flow. Went east. The viz seemed about the same after tidal change.........

Oh, I'm willing... It's the ABLE part I'm struggling with.

Last night was a good time. Thanks to all the guys who let me tag along and for your patience. ! I learned a lot and hopefully we can do it again!

I need you to send me your email address so I can send you the picture I took of you. All I can recommend is get your butt in the water. With your email address, I can forward invites and let you know when I'll be diving.

BTW: Plan on getting your Nitrox and AOW so you can do some drift dives too.

jimw, MrChen, thanks for letting me tag along last night! Much fun!

Tim, the pleasure was mine. I always knew where you were with that camera. Those two lights made you look like an underwater sub from the Abyss. Thanks for pointing out those little guys by the bridge. They are easy to see in the pictures, but with my 1000 lumens DRIS light, I could barely make out that little scorpion fish during the dive. Jim forwarded the pictures to me and I added them to my photos.

That was you there the other night. I thought you looked familiar but I couldn't put a name to the face.

When the tide changed, the moon jellies got REAL thick under the east bridge. I felt like Nemo and Dori jumping from jelly to jelly in a race. They were everywhere. I was on the north side and decided to just get away from the bridge, so I headed back under to the south. I felt pretty uncomfortable trying to avoid the jellies at EVERY turn. Next thing you know, I find myself getting out from the under the bridge. Phew, I made it right? No, I was on the north side again! ARGH. Attempt 2, I kept checking my compass after swimming around the jellies to make sure I kept heading south. I was a tad stressed and downing my air faster than I wanted. So I planned to just end my dive.

Dang, where is my flag tied off at? It's a bit harder at night to find it in the dark. So I find this flag tied off which has a light on the handle, the same handle as mine. My first thought was, did Jim put that light there to make it easier to find? That's a pretty good idea! But before untying it, I look up and see that it isn't my flag. I eventually find my flag and I'm going to give it to Jim, but I have to find him first so I pick a light and head to it. Oh, I find Jim and he's got a flag in his hand already. He also has that oh crap look on his face as he realizes he isn't holding my flag, but the one with the light on it. He quickly tied it off nearby. I signaled that I was going to exit and I handed him my flag.

Back to dodging jellies as they were everywhere near the exit and in shallower water. I finally get through them and get on the beach. Man, that was the most difficult exit I ever had at BHB. Not that I was ever in danger, but my SAC rate went to crap and my air supply was dropping quick. So I'm walking down the beach when I hear a fisherman yelling that someone's tied up in his line. Yea, that was my flag lol...

Wait, I thought someone replied to my recent post about the jelly intensity with "not too bad"....
Went last night and got some great stuff (stealing from Guy, will post later:D)
par for the course by the outward tidal flow point it got so bad I swam head and shoulders out of the water back to the beach.
My spotter and I look like we have taken a couple rounds of jellyfish buckshot...
Great night dive though! Vis 20 isn to start and temp 84, jellies and sargassum thick.
Someone waiting in the parking lot thought we had a problem because our flag only moved about 20 feet in 2.5 hours, lol!
Gotta love a target rich environment!
John

2 1/2 hours this morning in mostly the same 15 square feet. And yes, the jellies have thickened considerably in the past week. All up & down the water column - you really have to watch where you're going, watch where you surface. I would not recommend diving nekkid right now. But vis was a good 30 ft, so there was that.

I have to quote Steve Urkle, "Did I say that?" It wasn't bad until we hit the east bridge and the tide shifted. Then it got NUTS.
