I think it is a purse crab, i dont think that perspective has the details to identify which kind it is. I just thought it looked funky so I took the shot

Finally got back to the bridge after a 4 month hiatus. I must say I was a bit nervous as the water temps reported were about 10° colder than where I've been diving. :cold: I grabbed my 3mm shorty to accompany my jane, a container of hot water for the post dive shower, and some hot tea and headed up. I met up with Terryb and we headed west. Somebody was photographing a pipefish so we hung around for a chance. Made it to the channel and back. I got chilled around an hour, but somehow stuck it out to get a 2:30 dive in.
What the heck happened? Where are all the urchins and why so many freaking bristleworms?? Not a lot of fish either, but plenty of other critters, big ole coral banded shrimp and arrow crabs.
Good to be back, and look forward to getting back up there again soon.

Oh and this flag dragging thing is a pain! St. Thomas beach diving, no flag required where I dived. Nice. FREEDOM!!!

I was also carrying a new to me camera, it was a bit bulky cause I acquired a wide angle lens.. I really want a macro, too many out of focus images even after taking off the W/A lens, trying to get close like I could with my old camera.. maybe next time I will bring both..

My camera locked up, but not before I got 3 shots I was willing to post. Found the Atlantic Longarm Octo in the swim area or just to the east of it.

Is the uploader problematic with anyone else? Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't... *sigh*

Nice pics Chen. What camera did you take these with?

that was a great dive Scuba_Jenny thanks for the intro to BHB diving. If you make it up to Ontario some time get in touch with me so I can show you some of our "cool" diving. Pun intentional. I have never seen so many Bristleworms and arrow crabs, wild.IMG_2322.jpgIMG_2340.jpgIMG_2388.jpgIMG_2490.jpg

The urchins seem to have had pretty low populations at BHB for the past year or so....no clue why

and the bristleworms are prolific! Every time I thought I saw a little flabalina, (sp)it was a baby bristleworm! i think I only saw one or two urchins. Usually the west side is littered with them..

pygmy seabass.. apparently kinda rare in our area. Remember seeing one on the east side a year or so ago.

Lovin' the wide angle, though I need a pouch or some thing to carry it around in when I take it off for my psuedo macro.

Welcome back!
We dove the west side yesterday and it was as nice as mentioned.
Only new find was a batch of micro squat lobsters.
Found a couple bright red "regular" sized ones but watching the bottom ripple through the diopter I noticed a slew of babies so tiny it was ridiculous.
Good interaction with a photogenic long arm octo, hungry juvenile leopard searobin, pygmy seabass and many more.
Slow on the nudies but great dive.
Hope to have some photos later.
John

I did find a dive slate on Friday night...anyone here lose one late last week?
