It was GREAT!!!

I saw my first Giant Black Sea Bass!

Over at Blue Caverns yesterday we ran into a Giant Black Sea Bass!

It had to be at LEAST 6 feet long and 3-4 feet tall!

Easily 300+ pounds!

Has anyone else run into this beauty?

I didn't know what they looked like but when I saw it, there was no mistake! But just in case, my buddy confirmed it!

They are magnificent animals. Glad to see they are comming back so nicely. Now if we can just keep the idiots from shooting them.

Hey, congratulations Kirstin! A week ago Monday I was diving in the Park with my niece and nephew from Atlanta and we saw FIVE black sea bass: a courting pair zooming past the Cousteau memorial finger reef and a big daddy (350-400#) with two smaller (125-150#) bass in the kelp. My nephew and I had a 15-minute encounter with the big one and I got about 10 minutes of good footage.

My nephew flew back here from Atlanta this week to do four days of diving with me. Despite great vis in the dive park this week, we've been skunked so far.

I saw one swimming rather quick near Two Harbors this past weekend +300LB. This was my 5th or 6th sighting overall, mostly in the outer side of the kelp.

Icy Ice- not to divert this thread, but I like your sig... have used that quote and another from Einstein in my e-mail sig for over a decade. Wise man... but he never saw a black sea bass!

Footage is available on my "Munching & Mating in the Macrocystis" DVD.

Just dove with my nephew again today and we encountered two smaller (250#) courting black sea bass just past the vertical wall on the way to the Sujac. Was able to get about 4-5 minutes of footage of the two of them. Another diver came over and was very courteous, observing without inducing any behavioral change in the bass (or us).

Vis is declining a bit since three days ago, but still good.
