Greetings,

[It does feel good to be back into the world of diving after several years off :) ]

Does anyone know what the "Button" or "dial" on the front cover of an R380 is for, please?

I did not see it in the schematics or the repair guide....

It's the equivalent of the old "key" in the face of the 109.
When you turn it away from the dot, it holds the valve open, to take pressure off the LP seat.
It was one of the earlier "seat-saver" features.

I'll try to find a schematic.

I see, then it is much like the "seat saver" used to prevent engraving on the G250HP, right?

Exactly. A mechanical opening of the valve, to take pressure off the seat.
So reg will freeflow if you forget and leave it on. And keep in mind that rinsing regs with valve open will necessitate keeping the first stage higher than the seconds, because a little water may track up the hose.
