heres a copy of an email I recieved from sandeaters email forwarding ,I personally havent looked at the swell predictions yet for the weekend, just wanted to post it for info

"Several of my surfing instructor colleagues approached me this past weekend
commenting about the 20 year swell scheduled to arrive THIS coming weekend.

A check of the swell models on surfline.com and wetsand.com both have
significant surf forecasted for the entire Southern California coast
Thursday through Sunday. I would advise everyone to pass on beach diving
during this period. This would be a good weekend to do gear maintenance,
take a boat charter or go see a movie."

I have to attend a meeting at the Terranea Resort (old Marineland/long Point) tomorrow. Anyone want to go diving around 5:30 pm?

Or just come out to Catalina where the swells shouldn't be so bad! I guess it is a good thing I didn't follow through on my plan to dive the mainland coast with a new buddy.

This week/weekend would be a good time to be in Catalina.. Hopefully the conditions here won't be as bad as expected....

I've looked at a couple different forecasts and they say different things, anyone else have any news or opinions on which is more accurate

So what are you waiting for... hop a boat and come on over! Oops, I just realized I wrote a four letter word for you... B-O-A-T!

CDIP shows 4-8 ft on Saturday throughout Orange Cty, and 3-6 ft in LA County. Wetsand shows over 6ft. on Saturday, with almost 6ft high tide Saturday morning. Stormsurf.com shows 7-8 ft. on Saturday.

There is a major storm right now in the southern hemisphere that is generating 40ft swells, and it looks like the forecasts I've seen are all agreeing that there will be big surf this weekend, especially on south facing beaches. And with an almost 6ft high tide on Saturday morning it will probably be pretty messy. Maybe if you can find a place in Catalina's shadow it might be diveable.

Those big comfy boats to the island and back don't usually bother me :D They have the opposite effect... lulls me to sleep.

Wow Jim, bad news about the weekend.. :11: Looks like the only 'diving' I might be doing this weekend is in the swimming pool here.. :14:

I wouldn't blow off the weekend. It ain't gonna be 20' swells. I can't find any model
suggesting that. Looks more like 8' SW for you SoCal folks, which I consider diveable.
You'll have to pick your spots, and the SW swell is unusual, so this would be a good
weekend to dive those spots that get hammered by the usual NW swell but have
protection to the south.

I can't remember where I found this picture, but it was a Wrinkles dive I believe. There may actually be some people diving this weekend! :D
