If you prefer the Suuntos, LP has Vyper 2s on closeout for $400

Thanks for the pointer. That's a good price for the Vyper. I read through the manuals of many of these computers though, and I remember that the Vyper 2 and Air was missing some info when running them in gauge mode, as compared to the Vytec. Can't remember exactly what at the moment though.

Skip the inserts and expensive prescriptions, just go for the mask with the readers already in.

Thanks, I've looked at those, but the ones I've had an opportunity to try on didn't fit me well.

Maybe max. depth/ceiling depth on the primary screen? They have a stop watch.

I presume the compass is irrelevant as you're considering the Tec2G (the Vyper 2's is pretty useless in any case). Personally I find the Vyper/Vytec/Vytec DS display easier to read than the more recent models, the only drawback being that they lack the ability to display dive profiles on it. I prefer the Tec 2G for the push-on/push-off backlight and a better layout of the primary screen, but I think Suunto has a more intuitive interface (and one or two more buttons; the Tec2G looks like it could be a bit memory-taxing for features that you don't use that often) and a better arrangement of alternate screens. Too bad you weren't looking a bit earlier; LP was selling Galileo Terras for $600, but they're gone now.

I checked the manuals; the Vyper2 does not show ascent rate indicator in gauge mode. Not a complete deal breaker, but ...
