If you happen to come across that brand name I'd like to know.

I could not find a web page for them.

FYI - a friend of mine bought two different Tec 2G's from LP, both had problems.

The Vyper display is pretty big. I've bought them used for as low as $150 on TDS. I'm currently using a Vytec (also bought used), same screen as the Vyper, but it has a resettable timer. Certainly not needed, but nice.

that's hard to beat then. pricetag i saw was closer to $550.

Ouch, I shouldn't complain about the $300 from LP then.

Thanks John. I'll search for details about those.

The Vyper seemed easier to read than the Tec 2G, so maybe used is the way to go. I'll keep an eye on the Classifieds. Thanks.

What do you need seconds for?

The minimal deco ascents we were taught and practiced in Fundies was 30 ft/min until first stop. Then a 30 second stop and a 30 second "glide" to the next stop 10' shallower. I realize that I can't do this to the second, but it's something to strive for. And the timing in seconds will help keep me on track. I liked the resettable timer as well - made it easier to keep track of the 1 minute (= 2 x 30 second) intervals for each "glide" plus stop.

Thanks again for all the help and comments. I realize this is pretty basic and not entirely on DIR topic, so I appreciate you all taking the time.

One last note, and then I'll stop posting here, but you can approximate a 30sec Stop / 30 sec Glide by getting to your first stop, and waiting for the minute digit to increase. Then move to your next shallower stop when the minute increments again. Approximate a 20 fpm ascent rate, and then wait at the next stop until the minute increments a second time. Repeat.

ie, if you're on a 100 foot dive. At the end of the dive, ascend to 50'. If your timer says 21, wait until it rolls over to 23 (or 22 if you prefer), then start your ascent to 40'. When it rolls over to 24, head up to 30' and stop. When it rolls over to 25, head up to 20' and stop. Etc.

Thanks Tom,

Yes, that makes perfect sense. I found with my somewhat lacking skills, that keeping track of that minute change while managing both drysuit and wing was more task loading than I am up for just yet. Which of course makes it an equipment answer to a skills problem :D My drysuit venting in particular needs work. I am working on that though.

Thanks Valhalla,

I've contacted a couple of the prescription mask companies, but the cost, and the fact that my prescription seems to be changing quite rapidly lately, put me on the hunt for something less expensive and possibly more permanent.

Btw. I came across the Magni-View glue-in lenses at Dolphin Scuba in both 2x and 3x magnification:

MAGNI-VIEW 2x Mask Magnifying Lens

MAGNI-VIEW 3x Mask Magnifying Lens

I wonder how strong the glue is - if the lenses are removable if I don't like them ...?
