I'm on Timex #4 right now, but the first 3 were 100M versions. I had a G-Shock, but didn't like it because the stopwatch didn't work as nice. It was just go-stop. No lap function.

Thanks for the suggestion Tom.

Two problems with the Timex; 1) AFAIR the instructions are clear about not pushing buttons while under water. 2) I doubt I'll be able to read the screen :) but I'll check it out.

I guess I will bring up the obvious. Have you considered the diopter mask inserts? Dive Optx makes several powers of bifocal type diopters that stick right onto the inside of the mask lens. I use them just like my glasses by looking down toward the bottom of the mask lens for reading power. They go on wet and then stick like crazy after drying. I have never lost one even when teaching mask floods in the pool. They run about 25 to 30 bucks and are far cheaper than a new computer.

Thanks Jscott. Yeah, as I wrote in my first post "I realize the ultimate answer will be gauge readers in your mask" :) And I've looked at the various inserts available before. The reviews vary a bit as to how much luck people have had making them stay in the mask. Good to hear they can be made to stick.

I guess 2 things are going on;

1) my Vyper has Gauge mode, but no seconds and no stopwatch function

2) I don't want to admit that my eyes are going south  (or maybe that's reason 1 ?)

So if I could get a gauge/computer with the functions I want and a screen I can read while postponing the inevitable that would be ideal.

As a follow-up I have been trolling through the various computer manufacturers and the user manuals of potential candidates and have struck out so far. It looks like for the price the Tec 2G is it. Bigger screen and Gauge/Stopwatch goes from more costly to *much* more costly.

Thanks for all the replies,

Henrik

The biggest screeen for a computer with gauge mode I know of is the Uwatec Galileo series (Sol, Luna, Terra). Unfortunatly they have a price tag to match. I've used one for recreational diving and it is really nice. Really over the top for a bottom timer however.

There have been persistant rumors of a trimix algorithim in development for these computers, but nothing on the market yet.

I'm pretty sure that is standard for any watch.

I'm glad you've had good luck with those. I haven't. I have tried them in multiple masks over the last three years (trying to avoid the $150 price tag for having permanent bifocal inserts put in) and I have lost them repeatedly. This last time, I tried three times to get them to stick, and one would, and the other wouldn't -- even if I let them dry for a WEEK before diving them. I just can't recommend them. They aren't cheap and they can be very irritating.

After similar failures I went with a different product that glues on and is very permanent. I can't remember the brand name, but it works great.

What about the Hollis DG01? I think it is about 1/2 the price of the Tec 2G and is only a bottom timer, not a computer, and has seconds.

That's what I found as well - nice but expensive.

I thought so. Unfortunately that nixes the stopwatch function.

If you happen to come across that brand name I'd like to know.

Thanks Lamont. That's a nice bottom timer, but have they come out with a new/updated version? Fairly pricey for a bottom timer - granted with various nav timer functions as well, but still:

Hollis Gear: DG 01

DG01 Digital Gauge by Hollis - Dive Gear Express

LP carries the Tec 2G for $300
