I realize the ultimate answer will be "gauge readers in your mask", but thought I'd ask anyway;

I tried out the Tec 2G and like the timer/stop watch/avg. depth functions, but the screen and numbers are a tad small for my eyes. I've reached the stage where I need either longer arms or reading glasses

My prescription is just 1.25, and I *can* read my gauges, but it takes some reaching and squinting. Can't do a "quick glance" any more. Btw. I was told that refraction will make up for about +1 of prescription??

So, is there a BT/Computer - in a similar price range - with an easier to read screen?

Thanks,

Henrik

Research so far:

Suunto Vyper 2
Suunto Vyper Air
Suunto Vytec DS (the regular Vytec is no longer sold)

All do dive time in seconds when in Gauge mode with the option to reset the stop watch during the dive. The resettable timer is in the center position in larger numbers, while the total dive time is in smaller numbers below

Of course these are 1) much more expensive and 2) screens are not that much bigger 3) as far as I can tell no depth averaging.

Why are you posting this in the DIR forum? You'll probably get a better response in the appropriate gear forum.

There has been several discussions about the Tec 2G and Uwatec bottom timers in this forum, for use with the GUE minimal deco ascent types which is specifically what I'm looking to do.

Unfortunately these are the only 2 options I've found in searches in the DIR and Computer forums - other than the much more expensive options. I thought other divers might benefit from my findings.

Also, in the Computer forum, I've found no discussion of "bottom timer/gauge" functions with timing in seconds, which is probably not something the majority of divers use.

Hence my posts here, where gauge function and BT is often used. But feel free to move the thread if it is not appropriate for this forum.

Given your reasons, I think it's a reasonable thing to have it here.

I have the same problem, only worse -- I'm at a 2.00 correction now. The Vytech WAS easier to read than the Aladin, and it was easier to backlight, but it didn't have the resettable depth averaging. Of course, it turned out I never used that function on the Aladin, anyway.

I'll tell you that the ultimate computer for old eyes is the Liquivision, which is why I own one. But the price tag is painful.

Good to know about the Vytec. Thanks.

And I *do* have OLED envy .... :D

Have you looked at the Seiko dive computers (Cressi Archimedes II, TUSA IQ-700, Dive Rite NiTek Duo, Zeagle N2ition)?

I find their displays large and the UI intuitive. The gauge mode is basic but functional - no depth averaging during the dive and no stop watch feature.

Thanks Don,

I looked at the Nitek Duo and Trio. As you say, both have Gauge mode, but with only very basic functionality and no stopwatch. The screen looks fairly similar to my Vyper.

I borrowed a Tec 2G for descent/ascent drills during Fundies, and I really liked the stopwatch function to time moves and stops. It seemed like a great tool for just that, particularly since the stopwatch can be reset with a single button push and time is counted out in seconds.

A Timex Ironman 200M can do the same thing at around $50.

i've had two timex's flood on me. one on a very shallow dive.
i'd go with the casio g-shock. i've had mine to 240' with no issues and casey mckinlay has taken his a tad deeper
