what weekend works for everybody to do a small gathering at Blue Hole? I know the weekends are going to be busy there with the summer tourists/swimmers/jumper aholes, but they usually don't show up until close to noon. Is there a Fri/Sat/Sun that the RMO gang will be heading to BH anyhoo?

Ron and I are definitely going over 1 or 2 days in the next 6 wks in prep of our NC trip. It would be fun to see the gang from last year's shindig, cook up some grub on the grills again, do a couple of dives. I'll bring the video camera again. :D

last October's RMOs at BH & Perch Lake.

Well today works fine. Fridays at the BH are nice, great vis. Leave in an hour and meet you there at noon. Seriously my SUV is loaded, it is too hot to work today, nothing like back to back 3 day weekends.

I am free any weekend but the 19th.

LOL :rofl3: Doug, you kill me.

well..... that is a bit too quick for us. Besides, Ron is doing balloon crew tomorrow morning. In fact, we just got an e-mail from the dive shop saying they need an instructor for the next class.. but that is probably 19th/20th at BH. Ron hasn't taught much this past year so he will probably take it.

Sorry to have missed you Robin, but I did get to meet Ron. FIY, Stella told me that there is a big biker's rally of some sort next weekend, and that probably all rooms will be sold out, and it will be more of a zoo than usual.

I stopped by on Sunday to see her on my way home, and the Blue Hole was a total zoo. There must have been 35-40 swimmers/jumpers there, along with a lot of sight-seers. Stella said there were only 3 divers there on Sunday. I talked with one of them and he said he had a hard time getting into and out of the hole due to all the swimmers hanging around the steps. It is sure different than a year ago!

yeah, I decided not to go with him since they wanted to meet over at Rock Lake and dive. Not my thing.

Blue Hole in summers, sucks! I hate that they aren't discouraging people from swimming there. Divers have to pay and those jerks don't. It is turning into a real nightmare. The only way to get away from it is to arrive there at 7am and get in a few dives before the crowds show up, like 10-11am. It is like that all summer, until school starts back in Sept. If the City realized how many divers refuse to go there in the summer, all the $$ lost, they might do something about it... but that would require some work and you know they don't do that. :depressed:

I was over there a few weeks ago on a Friday. There were 8-10 swimmers and no divers in the morning, but a couple were prepping when I ascended after my 2nd dive around noon. Crawdads were dying off and some algae was starting on the bottom. I suspect Perch would be a nicer dive.

thanks, Doug. Ron just informed me that he has a meeting this Wed so we can't go over that day, but I am sure we are heading over one day soon. We will definitely be there early to avoid the jumpers. :D

It's been this way at BH in the summers on the weekends for a long time, but it seems to be hit and miss. 4 or so years ago I hit the hole on a trip home from FL and spent the night with my family in Santa Rosa.

The Hole was a zoo, HOWEVER it was all swimmers. Yup, not ONE diver. I promptly rented a very poor 7mm, threw on my 3mm as well, and did an hour in the hole with top to bottom vis, and I was alone.

I can put up with the swimmers for excellent vis. and zero divers.

Sorry I did not get down to the Hole in June, but I will likely plan a trip in Aug, and we do need to do a ScubaBoard thing down there. I am thinking late Aug~Sept timeframe, but nothing is planned at this point.
