My husband, son, and I all have Cobras and in the first year I had mine, when it only had about 30 dives on it, it crapped out on me. I'll be danged if I can remember what was wrong with it, I just remember that I was starting to descend and it either wasn't telling me my air or my depth. Either way was not good. I got hubby's attention and we stopped the dive. Later, I took it in to Sport Chalet and the rep was there and he fiddled with it and it was still acting funny so they packed it off.

It was kept in repair so long that Sport Chalet kindly supplied me with a loaner Cobra for my vacation that was coming up, at no charge.

There was a software upgrade since then and all the newer ones do not have that problem.

My Vyper 2 crapped out on me after about 250 dives. The mode of error seems to be about the same as what's been listed previously. The depth sensor went out during a dive with incorrect depth and time listings, the time keeping was due to it not registering diveable depth so that part was probably functioning as it's supposed to. The unit also did a few 50h+ dives on dry land.

I phoned the retailer on monday, they mailed a postage voucher overnight and I sent in to the computer to Suunto on tuesday evening. One week later I had a new Vyper 2. Customer support in Europe seems to be working well enough.

Thats awesome! When I bought my computer, my LDS told me the reasons they stock the computers they have, as because of service and warranty value. He went on the explain that any computer from any company can fail. He sold computers that he knew he could have serviced or fixed quickly. he went on to say if your computers fails, breaks whatever he would give me on while mine was being fixed. I bought for that reason and I have no regrets. I trusted him on that, after all I am a new diver what the hell did I know. I checked reviews on tons of dive computers and found really they all have good and bad reviews of equal concern. . It's good to hear people getting reliable service from the manufactures.

Yes.

I had 3 fail within 30 days of purchase. Luckily LP took care of it. I tried calling Suunto, but they said they couldn't help me.

Wierd, and crappy service. Does anyone know if shipping a computer in an airplane at over 1000 can cause problems?

Just a wild, hijacking thought...
