I'm totally with jk47 on the meclizine thing.

I buy meclizine over the counter from the pharmacist for about $10 for a bottle of 100. No scrip needed. Saves me a ton of money considering how many I go thru.

I hate the taste of ginger but should try ginger pills. I'm at the point though where I think I need the patch. Three meclizine over 24 hours plus wrist bands don't always work.

Happy Diving!

Best as I know, Walgreens does not market a product named "Wal-amine."

They do market "Wal-Dram II Meclizine Less Drowsy," which is the equivalent of Dramamine Less Drowsy Formula.

Could you please clear this up?

Thanks,

DocVikingo

ok I'm starting to get anxiety now about my sea sickness (its already started) I'm 5 days from leaving 10 days from diving and I'm worried sick about sea sickness. I've never tried these patches and have a ton of questions. Anywhere I can read more about the patches.

I just don't want to ruin the trip for my dive buddy (my wife)
I see the Doc in 2 days, hopefully he will clear up some of my worries

Dramamine for me.

Hi stangscuba98a,

Which Dramamine: Dramamine®Chewable, Dramamine®Less Drowsy or Dramamine®Original?

Regards,

DocVikingo

Hi EZHOOPS,

Getting anxious will only increase the likelihood of sustaining mal de mer. There really is no reason to anticipate that you're going to have rough seas at the time of year you are traveling. Try to relax. You're gonna have a great time.

I apologize for the confusion. I put "Wal-amine" in quotes to indicate that it is not a real name, but an attributed one; it is the Walgreens generic item, comparable to Dramamine, and I don't remember the exact name on the box (I only took the blister packs with me). I didn't mean to be that unscientific, sorry!

I can totally relate, I have the same problem.
kchFLA:
For me the motion sickness is caused by smells as much as the actual motion. I think the smells upset my tummy and give me a headache and the motion makes it worse. So staying as far from fumes or odd oders also helps.
I can not stand the smell of neoprene. It gives me a headache & makes me nauseous. The boat exhaust is another trigger for me.
Over the years my motion sickness has gotten worse. It is so bad that I even have troubles in a hammock. There are days on land that are just to much for me. Once under the water, all is good. Shore diving is how I prevent seasickness. LOL

Dramamine-Non Drowsy used to work great, but I find it to be less effective for me now. Picked up Bonadoxina (made by Pfizer) in a Mexican Pharmacy, a few years ago, that worked very well for me. It is 25 mg meclizina & 50 mg piridoxina.
I am going to pick up some ginger pills & a couple boxes of ginger snaps for my next trip.

Hi Kat,

In English, Bonadoxina contains 25 mg of meclizine (same amount as in Dramamine-Non Drowsy) and 50 mg of pyroxidine HCL, also known as vitamin B6.

Glad it's worked well for you.

Your absolutely correct. I guess its just that I was reading this brochure and it said that sea sick suspectible (sp?) should be prepared. That's what got me worried. I know I'm going to have a great time and yes I will relax.
