Hi
I live-dive in a tropical place and dive 80% of the time in a DS.
But unlike many people, I dive a compressed neoprene DS with neoprene sock (to be able to put it inside out)
Before the dive, you just need to do a smart timing management for avoiding overheating and you can even don it being wet.
During the dive, if you have a leak, this is not a big deal.
After the dive, you handle it like a wet suit.
And no problem at all with durability (just avoid leaving it under the sun) :)

I dive a neoprene SF Tech in hot Northern Florida climate. Neoprene works better because I don't have to layer as much - a thin underlayer and done. Water is 72F or 22C. Outside temp feels like 95F or 35C. The key is to have a two-piece undergarment so that you don't put the top layer until you're ready to dive.
