PNW area divers-

Just a reminder- some of the best diving to be experienced in the Northwest is coming up next month. Mark your calendars for the week of July 9-17, in Neah Bay. The tide and current predictions show that we can expect what is probably the best week of diving that will be available this year. On tap is: wreck diving on the SS Andalusia, exploring the underwater canyons at Duncan Rock, and spearfishing to the max. The fish limits at Neah Bay (marine area 4) are 2 lingcod per day, and 10 rockfish per day. Please consult the fishing regs for more detail. Other planned dive sites include Slip Point lighthouse, Seal Rock, Sail Rock, Tiger reef, and possibly the top-secret rock scallop reef. Dive site selection will be based on weather and sea conditions each day.

We are bringing the boat and are working on getting a second bigger boat there also. Those of you who have boats please feel free to bring them along, you can never have too many boats. Those of you who will be diving on someone else’s boat please don’t forget to pitch in and buy fuel for the boats you’ll be diving on.

If you have non-diving family members, this area has the state’s best tide pools and beachcombing. Olympic National Park is also right next-door, and can provide some additional topside diversion.

As for accommodations, the plan is for camping at the upper campground at Van Riper’s Resort in Sekiu. We’ve also got a line on some state DNR land between Sekiu and Neah Bay, if it proves productive we could move the camp site to there after a few days. For those of you who don’t like to camp, Van Riper’s and Curley’s Resort both have an abundance of hotel rooms. Just be aware that the Curley’s Resort website says they no longer allow pets in their rooms.

We hope to see all of you there. If you have any questions please feel free to call me on my cell at 509.961.2222
