I've had the Cheeseburger at Bob's, back behind the Plaza, and it was delicious. However, I came home with a rather bad stomach bug, which I attribute to eating that delicious medium-rare burger. A course of Cipro cleared it up, but it was a miserable trip home, with several rushed trips down the airplane aisle racing to the bathroom (and hoping desparately that it wasn't occupied). I no longer eat burgers in Mexico - a burger that's well-done just isn't worth it, and a medium-rare burger in Mexico is too great a risk.
Interesting. With all the other risk factors when eating in Mexico, not to mention the proliferation of noroviruses and rotaviruses spread among travelers, what makes you think it was the burger that caused your bug?

Ground beef regardless of where eaten should be cooked - steaks are to be eaten medium rare - but never ground beef!!!
Huh? Have you never heard of beef tartare? Hamburgers are at their best medium rare, just like any other beef except for the stew kind.

Tio Memos.....on 30th 1/2 block down from 11th.....you get 2 with everything for 30 pesos and they are huge.....the French fries are also good...but they do not open until 7:00 pm.

Im sorry but you are all wrong. The best cheeseburger is found at the Blue Angel restaurant. It has sliced avacado and the white mexican cheese - sorry I cant remember what its called with lettuce, tomato and onion........OMG. The only thing you can do after eating it is take a nap!

Thanks Christi, and to everyone else that responded!

Really? Everybody asks about dive spots, or ops, or boats, even Mexican food....but a cheeseburger? I love it! I hope you get your answer and it's the best cheeseburger ever! :)

OK now I'll go back to dive-related posts. But sometimes you just have to break it up :)

Yeah, what Christi said...

And they are like school cafeteria burgers - blech!!!

Mossman - yes - you have a point :) But I do like my ground beef cooked - too many unknowns in there ! I do routinely have steak tartare and beef carpachio though - different cuts of meat - but the ground stuff I prefer medium to medium well! :D

Blue ANgel also has great burgers - I love ALL of their food - not sure how I missed them - but I still maintain that they are not "THE BEST" burgers on the island, definitely in the top 5 though! No one is really in the same category as Buccanos or La Cocay burgers which are made from pure angus beef - not the pre-made hamburger patties.

There are some very good pre-made patties used by the other good burger places on my list - but then there are the little local places that tourists think are cool just because they found them - but seriously not burgers you would consider GREAT in the states or even in the same category as the ones on my list (unless you are a big fan of school cafeteria burgers) :D

SO - I'll narrow it to my favorite top 5 burgers on the island - if you want a REAL hamburger:
Bucannos
La Cocay
Rock-n-Java
Blue Angel
French Quarter (rumor has it that they are closing but I have not personally confirmed this - sad to hear if it is :(

Honorable mention for:
Money Bar
Wet Wendys
Bobs
