Hi! I'm making my first trip to Cancun in July 2004 and thinking of using Tank-Ha, Manta, or Blue Peace. We'll be staying in the Hotel Zone and would like to make at least one day trip to Cozumel and Cenotes. I heard some operators take boats directly from Cancun to Cozumel. I'd greatly appreciate any comments or suggestions!

Thanks, Jim

Couple of things.

I'm not sure where Blue Peace is located now. They closed up the shop I used to use and I heard that they're now sharing facilities with another op, and may have even merged the businesses. Not certain of the situation. In any case, if you can track them down, they're good guys. I always liked their small fast boats.

I'm not aware of any ops running boats direct to Coz. Most, if not all, of them take buses to Playa or PA and then take a boat across to Coz. Some then load you on a dive boat on the Coz side. It sounds more complicated than it is though. Everything is taken care of for you from the time you leave Cancun, at least when I've done the day trip. Same deal with day cavern trips.

Have fun

Responding to your note about cenotes - www.hiddenworlds.com.mx is the website for Dos Ojos. Great dive op. Contact them to see which Cancun Dive Ops travel to their facility. An all day 2T cenote dive from Cancun was running $125-$140 including the dives, transportation and a box lunch.

We book packages here in Puerto Morelos for the day trips down South - we book through SCUBA CANCUN and it's US135 for 2 tanks 2 cenotes and you visit two out of Dos Ojos, Chac Mool, Taj Mahal or Gran Cenote. Pick up hotel, lunch , gear all included. We also book packages for Cozumel with them but I don't favour the shop they use for diving so we only offer the snorkelling package there as an all inclusive. For our divers we book them with a dive op that we know and trust and explain how you can get there yourself - its easy. You just pay them when you get there. Happy to do same for you.

Thanks for the tips! I was able to locate a website for the Blue Peace http://www.bluepeacediving.com/ It looks like they're located in the middle of the Hotel Zone at the Nichupte Lagoon. I'll check them out when I get there.

Thanks, Jim

We stay right across the road from that location and they left there a while ago. Someone posted on here that they moved the operation in with another op, but I can't remember which one it was, or which thread it was in.

Nice website. Looks like Dos Ojos would be a great dive! I didn't realize you could book with them through other dive ops.

Dive Puerto Morelos

I'll be in Cancun for 7 days, planning on checking out Playa del Carmen and Puerto Morelos too. I'll stop in when I get there. Thanks for the reply!

I'm going to be there for 9 days in April and am also looking for a dive op. I've got the Cenote dives taken care of with a SB member, but want to do a few pretty fish reef dives up near Cancun or Isla Mujeres.

Soggy, check out Manchones Reef between Cancun and Isla Mujeres. Easy dive, shallow allows more bottom time to see the pretty fish. If travelling to Isla Mujeres look up Coral Scuba - they have dozens of more dive sites not listed on their website.
http://www.coralscubadivecenter.com/ Catbrown, you have one heck of a commute back and forth to work from Australia to Mexico every day! But I do know an instructor who works for Scuba Cancun and he is top notch.
