I will be going to Belize with Nekton Diving for the week of March 19-26. Will anyone else be on this trip? Also, I am trying to figure out how much neoprene I'll have to wear. They say that a thin suit is sufficient, but I am one of those people who gets cold really easily. In 30 degree (Celsius) water, I need a full-length 3 mm suit, and when it gets down to 25 or 26, I need a 5 mm full suit with a hood!! Any idea what actual water temp will be like in Belize in late March?

Thanks!!

Welcome to the Board. I won't be on the Nekton, but I will be in Belize in 10 days. The water temp is about 27 on the surface, 24 at depth, so I recommend you bring the 5mm with hood, maybe thicker if you plan on doing a lot of diving, which I imagine you will on a liveaboard.

I will be on the Nekton with some friends on those dates.
I'm planning to bring either my 3mn and a hooded vest or a full 7 mil.
I'm not usually cold so I'm leaning towards the first option.
I'm going to cozumel tomorrow so I'll probably make my gear decision after I come back from that trip.

O.P.:
I will be on the Nekton

Obvious statement: You lucky dog.

My contribution: Good, go test it out, but remember that your body will be doing mass quantities of repetetive diving. Your body will be losing even more heat/energy because it is on a moving platform (altho the Nekton is very stable, your body expends energy adapting even to the Nekton's gentle sway).

You may find great comfort in the "not-too-hot" tub. Otherwise- know that the Nekton interior space/living quarters smell quite good, and that is a factor of excellent A/C and dehumidifiers. Bring a sweater for indoor use and stay hydrated, much as you would on any dive trip.

Nekton is a standard by which all other liveaboards may be judged. Enjoy!

When the Nekton is around the best place to be is on it. Otherwise you have to look at it and it's hideous!

and to quote one of the Ch Engineers, Chris: "She's an ugly boat, but she's slow". ;)

Obviously neither criteria means much to the diver, however.

I just got back from Belize the water temp was 80 degrees. I wore a 2/3 full suit could have got away with my shortie...

You will love it. My non-diving wife and I went on it two years ago (I think). I didn't use my polartec suit. Fantastic diving, great food. Only 12 guests on board, 11 experienced divers. My wife had a great time snorkeling. Our second time on the Nekton.

The visit to the ruins was also fantastic. Makes Mexico seem like Disneyland.

I'm going on the Nekton the week before. March 12 - 19th, I'll tell the fish you're coming .. ;)

Just getting back from Cozumel where we did 2 to 4 dives a day for 6 days.
I was in my 3 mil with hooded vest and I was freezing after about 40 min in the water and sometime earlier on the 3rd and 4th dives of the day.
Therefore I made my decision, I will bring my 7 mil with hooded vest on the Nekton in March. I hate wearing that thing, but I rather be warm.
