Belize to Tikal

Hello All, I am going to be doing some diving in Cozumel, Mexico for a week, I also want to make a trip from Coz to Tikal in Guatemala. I have about a week to spend on this and I've been advised that I would travel through Belize to get to Tikal. I would like to get in a couple of dives on the way in Belize somewhere, maybe Ambergis or Caulker. Do any of you know what would be the most efficient route from Chetumal to Tikal and back using flights to save time? I could fly from Chetumal or Corazol to a destination in Belize, do a couple of dives and leave the next day or two for Tikal. Also, is there any other way back so I don't have to backtrack or would this be the most efficient way from Coz to Tikal and back?
