Sept 18th is International Coastal Beach Cleanup Day

LIDA - The Long Island Divers Association is organizing 2 different beach cleanup locations on Long Island. The 2 Locations are Beach 9th Street, Far Rockaway, Queens and Clarks Beach (AKA Secret Beach), Greenport, LI.

Times are from 10:00am - 3:00 pm
Cleanups will be both above and below the water. Bring gloves, trashbags will be supplied.

The cleanups are also part of PADI Project Aware.

LIDA's website is http://www.lidaonline.com

PADI's International Cleanup Day page is http://www.projectaware.org/americas/english/icd.asp

I am not sure where I will be diving this day but it will be at one of these 2 locations. Sometime next week I will post where I will be if anyone wants to join me.

Hey Ben,

Jen and I are LIDA members and will be at Clarkes Beach for the clean up. We dive there a lot and the place has been getting wrecked the last few years by inconsiderate non divers.

We usually pick up anything we find underwater, but the beach area has become too overwhelmingly messy for the two of us to make a difference by ourselves.

Hope to see you there....

Scott

My wife and I are planning on attending at Beach 9th. I haven't been there since it closed down. I am waiting for an email with more info from the Urban Divers Org. Is it still possible to park around there without getting towed? How about a dive shop to rent weights and tanks? Anyone know of one close by? When does the pool open? Thanks in advance for the answers and we hope to see ya'll out there. I would love to hook up with some fellow Wreck Valley Divers so I can become a "real" diving member...
