So, old ScubaKev maybe rollin' down towards Cozumel come October. I am interested in finding a way to spend the entire seven days submerged. I am bringing one cool person along, and would mostly prefer to be around friendly, happy people when I dive and while I am on dive boats. I need nitrox, and really prefer DIN valves, though I can adapt to yoke and just not ever look up.
I would like to stay at an off the beaten path type place, and don't care much about hot water. I'm anti-touristy resort, and pro-hammock.
Any suggestions?

Sounds like Scuba Club Cozumel - except for the DIN.

Hey Kev, I love the diving up your way and am thinking I might make my way back there sometime this summer. But I digress.

I can't help you on the valve issue but if you are anti-touristy, off the beaten path kind of guy, you might want to check out Baldwin's Bed and Breakfast. They are back around 55th, meaning they aren't anywhere near a beach although they have a pool, hammocks etc. The NEATEST hosts you'll ever come across. They can hook you up with a dive op (Pelagic Adventures; nitrox no problem but only 32%) or you can do something on your own. You'll be close to lots of local Mom and Pop restaurants. Lots of hot water.

I'd also recommend Villa Las Anclas, also in town (no beach or pool but kitchenettes). Hot water usually available. They will try and hook you up with Blue Angel divers. Both 32 and 36% nitrox available. Blue Angel has nice shore diving in front and you'll be allowed to use their ocean-front pool and free shore diving (non-nitrox though).

SCC is probably the way to maximize your wet time. You get 2 boat dive plus all the shore tanks you can stand. Shore dive is not bad for Coz. Let me know if you decide to go that route and I'll tell you about diving Villa Blac reef from shore.

But if you want to hit the best dive sites, I'd contact Christi at BlueXT and see what she recommends.

Liquid Blue offers nitrox and Big steel tanks and I'm pretty sure that they have DIN valves in them. Aldora and Living underwater also have big steel tanks. Either might have DIN valves on their tanks too. All three do the small boat, advanced diver kind of trip. I have only gone with Liquid Blue, but Roberto is a most excellent M and really friendly. I'd contact them and see what they say about accommodations.

Actually, Liquid Blue has yoke valves. Jeremy possibly and aldora are the ony ops I believe with DIN valves. I could be wrong of course.

I dove with Jeremy last week and he not only has new nitrox rated low pressure steel tanks, but he showed me the easy way they convert from a yoke to a DIN in no time. Small groups, a very fast boat(twin 150's), and very personalized service make him a good bet.
