Can anyone tell me huch integrated weight can be safely added to a BCD... I have two 5 lb soft weights (one on each side ). Is that two much ??? My buddy had two 6 lb hard weights and one popped loose and he lost it at depth.

How much weight would you add the the trim weight pockets near the back plate of the BCD ( concerned about balance and trim ) ??

Any comments would be apprciated... Thanks

"huch" is Canadian for " how much " lol

usually it,s stated in your user manual how much your trim pockets will hold,i would be careful with weight integration just held by velcro only (**** is waiting to hit the ceiling)most of the new weight integrated bcd,s have an additional safety buckle to hold the weights securely, they,re fine. If your weight system cannot hold it,s weight safely then i would think of selling it or using a weight belt in addition and spread the weight .Peace

I dive a weight integrated Sherwood Outback. I can put up to 3 lbs in each of the trim pockets and up to 15 lbs in each of the ditchable pockets (before someone critiques, I do NOT dive with that much weight). Currently with either a shell type drysuit and heavy undies or a 7mm wetsuit with 7mm sleeveless jacket I'm diving with 26 lbs (13 in each pocket, nothing in the trim pockets).

It will vary from BC to BC, so check the owners manual.

It depends on your manufacturer, but you should be within it's limits. My Sea Quest Balance for example takes 10 pounds in each primary pocket, and five in each trim pocket.

I've never had a problem with a pocket coming out by accident in the two years I've had the bc.

groundhog
read your sherwood outback manual
5lbsmax back pocket, front 10lbs
unless you order the 13lbs pocket
I own the same bc

yes, usually it tells you right in the pocket. each will say something like "5 lbs max"
or some such.

if not, check the manual. it will also tell you there.

Thanks folks.....I have a Mares Vector 1000 MRS and the manual states 16 lbs per side ( 32 max total ) .... I am safe at 5 lbs per side (well under the limit ) ... Maybe my dive buddy just had a defective "release" mechanism. ( it has popped several times on him) ..... Starnge the manual does not mention the TRIM pockets at the back of the BC. (Hmmmmm) I'll investigate further.

Thanks again for your comments.

take your total weight needed then split it up between the trim pockets and the ditchable pockets. The amount you use in the pockets should be such weight that when you ditch the pockets you are AT LEAST NEUTRAL. I would put as much in the trim pockets as you can so long as what's in the ditchable will allow you to make it to the surface. The more weight you get off your hips and further up towards your shoulders the better horizontal trim.
