BC ...too big...problem?

Hi. I just bought a wrong size of Oceanic Islander. After seeing the chart size that I supposed to wear size S, but I accidentally bought M size. I did try my M size of BC once and it was only a little bit big. But I tried to pull my BC tightly.

So do you think wearing one size bigger of BC will cause me a big problem??? I hope not....

Can't you return it?

If you can cinch the BC down enough to be a good fit, it won't be a problem. If you can't, the tank will be able to move around a lot on your back, and I, at least, found that VERY uncomfortable.

most bcd's these days r adjustable in morethan 1 way. look inside at the back plate after a few velcro undoings there r adjustable staps to make the bc smaller.

or u could just eat more food

Yes, I did adjust the lapels at the back plate following your advice. It helped a little. But still at the shoulders, I have to pull them all the way down. It seemed a bit fitter.

Hope to get more nice comments to make me feel optimistic with the BC that I bought. (Eventhough it is a lie) Coz I could not return it.

if you can't return it, and it's too big, try getting a lumbar pad sewed on to the back if you can. Zeagle have that option, but with the islander, I'm really not to sure. You could try re-selling it online at eBay.

But seriously - you say you can't return it, but can you EXCHANGE it for the right size?

If you can't get it to cinch up to at home while wearing your wetsuit it will only get worse in the water when it's all wet and you have the mass of an air cylinder teetering on your back. If that means pulling down on your shoulder straps that is fine. Assuming a depth compensating (elastic) cummerbund you should be able to close the cummerbund with the elastic stretched. This pull will help keep your rig secure as you descend and you suit gets squished.

Badly fitting dive gear puts the kibosh to as many divers enthusiasm as anything so do whatever it takes to be comfortable and safe. This is most true with regard to your buoyancy comnpensator, it must be an extension of you.

Didn't you try it on before you bought it. You must always be certain yout gear fits right both for comfort and it just works better that way. A loose fitting BC is not a good thing as mentioned previously.

Oceanic BCs definitely are on the large size. I'm normally between L and XL which just swallowed me. Luckily Diver's Direct allowed me to exchange my L after one dive for a M. Wearing a too-large BC is REALLY uncomfortable, especially as it starts to move around under water. I'm sorry you can't return it, but I really don't think you're going to be happy. Maybe the LDS will allow you to pay a restocking charge to exchange it.
