I just got a Bauer PE100 with petrol engine and have immediately swapped to an electric motor because I don't want carbon monoxide anywhere near my breathing gas, and I dot care if a fill takes longer as a result. I picked up a TFM Engineering repackable triplex filter and have since installed that.
Upon taking the old filter out I noticed it looked like you could easily take it apart and so I did. I decided to record the contents because I couldn't find a clear answers when I was researching how to repack triplex filters.
In a 059183 filter (for petrol models) the order of the filter screens, felt pads and materials from the inner core end closest to the o-rings to the outer layer and lid is:
(Inner core)
1. Metal filter sceen.
2. Small felt pad (23mm diameter, 5mm thickness)
3. Hopcalite 26 grams
4. Metal filter screen
5. Small Felt pad
6. Activated carbon 18 grams
7. Small felt pad
(Outer layer)
8. Molecular sieve material 67 grams.
9. Large felt pad (40mm diameter, 5mm thickness)
10. Metal disc
11. Spring
12. Plastic lid
13. Plastic lid retainer clip/handle.
Attached are some pictures.
Needless to say, repacking these original Bauer filters is not recommended but it looks like it can be done. Making new filter pads seems like a hassle.
It is definitely easier to use the specifically designed TFM Engineering filter instead, and their reasonably priced repacking kits come with a new felt pad (you cycle out the oldest one and shift them along the stack).
So for whoever needs this info - enjoy.
