The Battle of the Atlantic Research and Expedition Group will hold its quarterly meeting for the 1st Quarter of 2013 on Wednesday, Jan 16, at 6:30 PM at Milano's Family Restaurant, 6230-G Rolling Road, in West Springfield, VA. Milano's website is at Milano.
The purpose of this meeting will be to hear short (5-10 minute) presentations on selected wrecks as a point of departure for setting the 2013 trip scheduled. The following wrecks will tentatively be presented and discussed: U-701; USS San Diego; SS John Morgan; HMT Bedfordshire; and Ashkabad. Additionally, there will be a discussion concerning the possibility of the Group's undertaking basic maritime archaeological surveys of World War II wrecks off the US East Coast, as well as the possibility of a trip to dive Scapa Flow in 2014.
The Battle of the Atlantic Research and Expedition Group is an informal group of individuals who share an interest in conducting and sharing historical research on topics related to the maritime campaigns waged between the Allies and Axis/Central Powers during 1914-18 and 1939-45 and conducting scuba dives on wrecks associated with these campaigns to document their current conditions via photography and/or videography.
Membership is open to any person having an interest in the Battle of the Atlantic, be they recreational diver, technical diver, or non-diver. There are no dues.
Please PM me for additional information if interested or just show up. Bring your appetite for both history and good pasta/pizza.
