OK gang... give me some input.

What should (if anything) warrant a temp ban (5 day suspension)?

What should (if anything) warrant a perm ban?

And yes, moderators have been reported in the past.

I can attest to that!

by all means, report them all, the admins will see the report, I guarantee it.

Uh... Why would Pete having the sole ability be better than a quarum amoung the moderators? I don't follow at all. The -concept- of a banning timeframe is nothing more than that... they are banned, and the ban is lifted after a certain amount of time. There's no special 'permanent ban' feature.... well, I know of one, but I always successfully fought the urge to delete member accounts.

I am hoping Pete will be more compassionate and intelligent than here-to-fore committees of mods.

It seems like if you criticize PADI, then a PADI moderator will ban you.

Criticisms of DIR are not permitted. This is dubbed "trolling."

Replying in kind to a bash artist will get you banned while the bash artist remains.

Criticizing one of the inner circle will get you banned. Even if you do not know the inner circle or who is in it.

And again, I do agree with WW's vacation comment.

Yanking a thread should normally be the ultimate sanction. Especially since it works so well.

IndigoBlue,

My apologies. I thought this was going to continue on the quasi productive trend it started to take.

Oh well. Wait. I wanna play too!!!!

The Sky Is Falling... The Sky Is Falling

Oh... hmm... guess I need the torch and pitchfork to get the point?

Jeff you just have to walk on eggshells a lot around here.

I believe WW's vaction comment is closer to point than you may believe.

I hope Pete can make ScubaBoard a little better place, is all. I gave him my suggestions. That's the best I can do.

But if you get banded they find a justifiable reason for doing it. Even if one doesn't exist. Especially in the DIR Forum. I think that's a sacred cow for some unknow reason.

There are a few things that won't happen on my watch...

1) Selling the data base. Go ahead and offer me a $1,000,000.00 and hear me say "no".

2) Purposefully sharing that which is held in confidence. This includes conversations that are within the confines of the mod's forum as well as who voted for what. However, if you send me a PM, I may bring that up with the Mod Squad if you do not indicate otherwise.

3) Second guessing my mods. I actually make very few of the decisions around here. In fact I often cheese off the mods with my silence while they debate the issue as I don't want to unduly influence the outcome. Sometimes they even scream for more "leadership". But I truly believe in empowerment and that the majority has more wisdom than I have by myself. WE have decided many things together, and so I will support them in all of it. Whether I agree or not is moot once we arrive at a decision. To my knowledge, this is true for all of the mods, so deal with it. I have yet to make an executive veto as I would trust any of these mods with my life and so I naturally trust them to deal with the board in an honest fashion. We are truly a band of brothers and sisters, and I watch their backs as they watch mine.

4) Purposely hurt, humiliate or otherwise act mean towards another user. This does not mean that I am perfect in this, nor does it mean that I will never express anger. It does mean that I will do my level best to be as fair as possible and to counsel my mods to do the same.

People, I believe in love, integrity and being flexible where ever I can (Letting Wreck Writer back without that acknowlegement is proof of that). I won't however, violate any core principle just because someone thinks it's their "right to know". I have invited each and every one of you to participate here... to have fun and to learn to be safer divers. I, along with the other mods have done our level best to provide a safe environment to enhance your learning.

To that end, I have asked for feedback on what you think should cause a ban and the mechanism to do it. Precious few of these posts address that, though they have given me good incite into how a few of you feel. I am looking forward to hearing more about this and less about how we view privacy.

Spectre:
Tom. Given that this has been in undertones for a _long_ time now from many members on this board, I want to address it.

No. Natasha's business has _nothing_ to do with any decisions that have ever been made by the moderators. There have been plenty of accusations in the past to her getting a scubaboard exclusive... which is completely false. She got permission, and _payed_ to post her commercial ventures. Those that make the claims that her mod duties get her extra privs are those that wanted to be able to _freely_ advertise their commercial ventures.

OK Jeff, let's do.

So are you telling me that Natasha is NOT the one that complained about wreckwench's trip postings and got her booted?

I'm well aware that Natasha has permission to make her posts, I also know that she has paid to do so. I always thought it was a bit low to charge her for it though. Putting up with the BS that a moderator puts up with should have some small benefit.

On the other side of the coin, since I really do prefer to be fair and honest, I also know that Natasha's trips are excellent and a good time is had by all who join.

You mean letting me back after having served only about 6 months of my 5 day suspension?

I think you let me back because someone told you that you screwed me in a way that finally convinced you that it was true. I appreciate it, really I do. I don't require an apology or even an acknowledgment.

Fred

1) do not get into flame wars; if someone starts a flame war, ignor their post

2) do not reply to personal attacks; if someone attacks you personally do not reply

3) stay out of the DIR section unless you are DIR
